Waterspouts in the Mediterranean

The shots have been taken on 25/07/1999 at about 5nm at west of the greek island of Othoni, along the international (Brindisi-Patrasso) navigation route. The column of about 10 waterspouts crossed the maritime route such that only 4 could be shot from the starboard of the boat. The shots have been taken with a 6x9 mid format Zeiss Nettar camera of 1952 loaded with 50 Asa Velvia film. Only two shots were available: The horizontal taken at 1/100 Sec with diafragm closure at 13.The vertical photo was taken some seconds later at 1/100 Sec with diafragm closure at 11.

Position

The detail of the Island of Othoni has been extracted from the High resoultion image.

The cliffs and other details of the western coast of the island are clearly visible from the starboard of the boat heading about 320°. The image can be compared with the aerial image shown on the right to match the profile of the cliffs.

The Zeiss Nettar camera

I bought his camera in Apil 1999 at the "Jeu de Balle" Market in Brussels
